Looking at the list of most searched keywords for the day in Google, the “filipino” keyword is on the list, ranking at no. 16 of the 20 most searched keyword in the United states.
Why? Does “Filipino” and “Holy Week“connect? Of course it does.
Judging from the results I found, it seems like a lot of people know the “notoriety” (in a good way) of Filipinos doing their penitence during Holy week – going as far as crucifying themselves similar as to what the Roman soldiers did to Jesus Christ.
Filipinos are deeply religious, I know (I am Filipino by the way). Being the only South East Asian country brainwashed by the West of Christianity, the filipino people have instilled to themselves the importance of following this religion.
Although it is really not safe to crucify oneself, many people are still following this ancient tradition as an act of repentance during the Holyweek.
Now, this act of crucifying themselves have gone so popular, that a lot of people, mostly foreigners, have gone to the Philippines just to witness this deep ritual.
