Save more ink by changing your document’s fonts.

Did you know that you can ?save ?precious amounts of printer ink by just changing your document’s font? Yup, I didn’t believe it at first, but after reading this article online, I think I will change my future important documents’ fonts to a more “ink-efficient” font type.

A lot of us spend thousands of pesos (dollars for those living abroad) for ink cartridges or ink cartridges-replacements. And sometimes, we get caught on a dilemma of ending up going to a computer shop to print something important just because our printer at home stopped working due to empty ink cartridges (I know I did :D ).

According to this article in Yahoo.com (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100406/ap_on_hi_te/us_tec_money_saving_fonts), changing your font type to Century Gothic will save you money and ink.

According also to the article, Printer.com gave the following list of fonts that saves on ink (and money :D ).

When Printer.com tested popular fonts for their ink-friendly ways, Century Gothic and Times New Roman topped the list. Calibri, Verdana, Arial and Sans Serif were next, followed by Trebuchet, Tahoma and Franklin Gothic Medium. Century Gothic uses about 30 percent less ink than Arial.

The amount of ink a font drains is mainly driven by the thickness of its lines. A font with “narrow” or “light” in its name is usually better than its “bold” or “black” counterpart, said Thom Brown, an ink researcher at Hewlett-Packard Co., the world’s top maker of printers.

However, using Century Gothic font type may backfire on the environment; as this font type is wider, you will end up using more paper.

Darn it.

So which option will you choose?

I think the good move is to always be sure when you print your document; check it through print-preview so you are sure that your document is complete, and most of all -

…don’t print unless necessary :D .
