It’s like the Kennedy Administration all over again, except this time, there is no Cold War scenario.
space.com (http://www.space.com/news/obama-space-plan-speech-100415.html) posted in its website that incumbent United States President Barrack Obama unveiled its vision send astronauts to a nearby asteroid and ultimately to Mars in mid-2030s.
This will be another “history in the making” for human kind as we step again into the vastness of space since the famous 1969 space launch that placed the first humans to the moon.
According space.com;
By 2025, the United States should be ready to test manned spaceships for deep space exploration, vehicles capable of exploring beyond the moon on the first-ever manned trip to an asteroid, Obama said.
“By the mid-2030s I believe we can send humans to orbit Mars and return them safely to Earth,” President Obama said. “And a landing on Mars will follow, and I expect to be around to see it!”
And NASA is in full support of this vision, as NASA chief Charles Bolden stated after the president’s speech;
“I think this president gets it.”
By enabling humans to land on a predetermined asteroid, humans can change or “nudge” its course in space. If that asteroid is on due course to Earth, we can prevent a massive disaster by sending astronauts to such asteroid and nudge it out of its course toward Earth.
This is a bold move by the Obama administration and not to mention, another “big leap” for mankind.
