Archie comics have been around for years. The Archie comics, founded way back in 1939 (yup, it started on the year World War II started! ), is still being produced and published today, still under the same name, Archie.
And now, to what it seems like an adjustment to current norms, the Archie world is presenting its first openly gay character – Kevin Keller.
Adding to the mix of Archie characters like Veronica, Jughead, and of course, Archie, is Kevin Keller, the first openly gay character in the Archie world.
According to Jon Goldwater of Archie Comics in a post in the Washington Post,
“The introduction of Kevin is just about keeping the world of Archie Comics current and inclusive. Archie’s hometown of Riverdale has always been a safe world for everyone. It just makes sense to have an openly gay character in Archie comic books,”(http://voices.washingtonpost.com/comic-riffs/2010/04/gay_archie_character.html?hpid=artslot)
