Anamika Veeramani, a 14 year old girl from North Royalton, Cleveland in the United States won first prize on the recently held 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is a prestigious spelling competition in the United States dating back in 1925. Contestants come from different states all over United States and from different countries around the world, including Canada, Jamaica, Germany, South Korea, to name a few.
And what is the “winning word” that got Anamika Veeramani the top prize for the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee?
It’s “Stromuhr“.
Now what in the world is a “Stromuhr“?
Well, according to Google, “Stromuhr” is a medical term that describes a rheometer designed to measure the amount and speed of blood flow through an artery.
Aaah, so that’ why “Stromuhr” doesn’t ring a bell to me, haha.
Anamika, an Indian-American, was “emotionless” so to speak right until he she was given her trophy. According Yahoo News;
She has the demeanor to pull it off: She stood deadpan with her hands behind her back after spelling the winning word, the medical term “stromuhr,” and didn’t crack a smile until the trophy was presented.
“It was too surreal,” she said. “It was an amazing experience. I usually have a poker face, so that’s what that was.”
Anameeka Viramani, an eight-grader in school, also has golf and dancing as her hobbies. She also wants to study in Harvard and become a cardiovascular surgeon.
Well, with her superb academic performance, that dream may be a reality in the near future.
Congratulations Anameeka!
