Oprah, the world renowned host of her own show, (which is aptly entitled “OprahWinfrey Show“) , has a sister. Ok, I think that doesn’t even rang a bell, but hear this – Oprah herself declared that she has a “secret half-sister“. Now I think that rang a bell now.
With her rising own TV channel (the OWN, or the Oprah Winfrey Network) comes also the big “revelation” that Oprah has a half-sister. Well, this seems to be not a big issue, right? Well the catch is, Oprah herself just found the existence of her half-sister just recently.
Oprah Winfrey’s half-sister’s name is Patricia. The “Queen of All Media” revealed this during her show today. According to pop.ew.com;
The talk-show host explained that her mother, Vernita Lee, had kept her pregnancy a secret and had given Patricia up for adoption when Oprah was nine years old. Patricia apparently initiated communication after seeing Lee in television interviews discussing certain details that dovetailed with the few facts Patricia knew about her birth mother. A DNA test has confirmed Patricia’s relation to Oprah.
Of course, Winfrey was surprised when she heard about this – who wouldn’t right? Because of this revelation, Patricia would definitely be a big part of the success of Oprah.
“It was a Beloved moment,” Winfrey says, referring to the movie in which a daughter comes back from the dead. Home video shows the two embracing for a long moment.
During an interview taped last week with Patricia and their mother, Lee said she had denied the truth for so long because she was ashamed that she had given up a child for adoption.
“I thought it was a terrible thing that I had done,” Lee said, adding that she felt she wouldn’t be able to take care of another child and get off welfare if she had kept her. Still, she said, “I did think about the baby. I went back looking for her and they told me she had left.”
And there goes the whole story, a happy ending indeed. Do you think Patricia will have her own show in the Oprah Winfrey Network in the future?

[...] What really caught me off guard though was that the movie was kind of ..uhm, “hollow”. It wasn’t that deep to even make a lasting impression in your mind after the movie ends. The movie flow was pretty straightforward, though – too straightforward that the main events of the story is thrown at you at quick succession. At one time I see Jack Black hitting it with the girl and the next he’s on Lilliput doing his usual antics with the little guys. [...]
