Wild Wild West with a Chameleon – Rango Movie Review.

The other day I had the chance to watch “Rango” in the cinema. The colorful poster and teaser in the cinema really made me want to try this computer generated/ animated movie.

Well of course, I want to be as unbiased as possible when it comes to animated movies (I tend to love watching these kind of movies because being “animated” is enough reason for me to love it :D ), as I will review this as a typical movie goer.

The first thing that you’ll notice when you watch the opening of Rango is the superb graphics/ animation. In my opinion, the animation in Rango is one of the best at par of Toy Story 3.

The story is about “Rango“, a pet chameleon who got stranded in the Nevada desert. During his walk, he meets an Armadillo (who was just ran over by a speeding car at that time) and talks about the Mystical Spirit of the West. Rango was eventually led to a Wild West town of Dirt, where a water crisis was currently going on.

Because of Rango’s “fake” story which he told to the villagers, he got himself into “trouble ” with the local outlaws and the dreaded Hawk, which “accidentally” he defeated. Because of that, Rango received the trust of the villagers and even made him the Sheriff of the town.

Unknown to the town people, their Mayor (a tortoise!) is planning to develop all the nearby land of Dirt, and is also responsible for the water crisis Dirt was experiencing. Obviously, Rango was the only one who can stop all of this and bring the water crisis to a halt.

As I’ve said above, the animation/ graphics is superb in Rango. The textures of each characters are super detailed (you better check the scales of the Armadillo and the Snake :D ).

The only lowdown with Rango would be, well, the story. The story feels so “empty” – as empty as the Nevada Desert. There’s the usual punchline jokes here and there, but over all, it doesn’t live up to the expectation of being a “comedy animated movie” we all knew like Toy Story 3.

Overall, Rango is a good afternoon killer. It may be not as deep as other animated movies out there, but as a fun animated movie, Rango is the way to go, although with the few “serious” hiccups.
