I watched the first Kung Fu Panda because of Jack Black. Yes, I’m a huge fan of Jack Black even way back before Kung Fu Panda; (School of Rock comes to mind). I see Jack Black as a very versatile actor who can sing, act, and make every normal scene very funny and interesting.
So obviously, when Kung Fu Panda 2 premiered in theaters, I was sure I was going to see this movie.
As expected, Kung Fu Panda 2 gave me what I expected as a sequel; action-packed scenes seasoned with well-placed comedic lines, plus more!
As a quick backgrounder, Kung Fu Panda 2’s main premise is Po’s background. This time, Po is adviced to find his “inner peace” by Master Shifu. Along the way, he encounters Lord Shen, a peacock that is part of Po’s past connected to his real parents’ mysterious disappearance. Lord Shen wanted to take over China by taking all the metals of the nearby villages and use it to make numerous cannons. Po finds out Lord Shen’s connection to his past so he decided to take him personally to know more about himself!
Personally, I found the Kung Fu Panda 2 very entertaining! The same old funny-Po-atmosphere is still there – along with all the crazy antics reminiscent of the first Kung Fu Panda. My only gripe with this movie is that its more darker than the first movie – I really like the colorful atmosphere in the first movie compared to the Kung Fu Panda 2’s darker night fight scenes, but that’s just a minor gripe.
Bottomline, Kung Fu Panda 2 is definitely a must watch for the whole family!
