Three days ago, my grandparents came home from New York to spend their vacation here in the Philippines. As usual with all “balikbayans“, they gave us little presents(pasalubong) from the United States. My tita in the U.S. knew that I was fond of reading books (history/ military history to be exact), so as expected,  she gave me a couple of history-themed books. But along with those pile of books was this little book that did not resemble any military theme whatsoever.

The book’s front was printed with a guy on top of a bus, as if he’s looking in the sky for something.

An excerpt in it reads in part, “He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself…”

That really caught my attention so after a hearty dinner, I quickly read it.
